The Thoughts of Tao Te Ching Essay

The thoughts of Tao Te Ching (Philosophy)

The very first thing that hit me regarding Tao Te Ching is definitely Albert Einstein. I am a big enthusiast of Einstein, perplexed simply by years of learning his medical theories and thereafter forever being awed by his genius. As for Taoism, being of Chinese descent, growing up in the eastern community, I have constant exposure to the Taoist practices, culture, practices, images and symbols. Yet , the irony is that I had never embarked further than just being a mere observer, a classic case of not finding the forest for the trees.

Once i began to examine Tao Te Ching, I actually am curious by the idea of Tao and its similarities to scientific theories, Einstein's theories and thoughts, in particular. In Chapter one of the Tao Te Ching, that tells me that the real Tao is no entity and cannot be described in phrases or named. All that could possibly be named are simply illusions or mere manifestations as stated in chapter one particular, " Naming is the origin of all particular things” and another series, " Trapped in desire, you can see only the manifestations”. The " mystery” which is the " unnamable Tao” can be reality mentioned previously in this sentence, " The unnamable may be the eternally real”. Then, that goes on to admit, " However mystery and manifestations happen from the same source”. I would interpret this as reality and optical illusion are both the same. Here, I draw similarity to Einstein's quote " Reality is simply an false impression albeit a really persistent one”.

Typically what we find is relative to another that opposes: negative and positive; being and nonbeing; tough and easy; lengthy and short; high and low; before and after.

In my experience, it means that what we can see as genuine is identified by contrasting to a thing that is opposing, without...
